CENTRE OF EXCELLENCE
Pandemic Preparedness
Founded in 2019
Our Start
Initiated in September 2019 by the Singapore Red Cross Society.
CoEPP is a network helmed by SRC with the idea that disasters are not only earthquakes, tsunamis, and the like but also the outbreak of infectious diseases.
It aims to build capacity in communities in the Southeast Asia region and raise awareness and provide a platform to support individuals to protect themselves and the vulnerable in their communities. We drive regional ownership to instill a regional voice in enhancing our capacity-building efforts for the region.
Our Mission
Identifying gaps and challenges in responding to a pandemic and providing a platform for the Red Cross Red Crescent Movement to work together in building community preparedness and resilience.
Newly emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases have been appearing at an increasing frequency over the millennia, driven by various microbial, human, and environmental factors. Any of these diseases can develop into a pandemic at any moment with little warning, severely impacting the psychosocial and economic aspects of mankind, regardless of borders. Southeast Asia in particular, is considered a vital area to monitor for such diseases. It is thus in our best interest to remain vigilant and prepared at all times.
The COVID-19 pandemic has shown us the salience of preparedness and collaboration in the face of a crisis. No single stakeholder or organization can tackle the situation alone. Overcoming our differences, building capacities and strengthening resilience is the way forward. Together, we can build a culture of managing and responding to change, enhancing our ability to respond to future crises. As such, CoEPP provides the platform for National Societies in the region to come together and coordinate resource and knowledge sharing to help communities respond and recover in a sustainable way.
